- Has two younger siblings: his brother Grant (7 years younger) and a sister Sorcha (9 years younger)
- Moved to Lytham St-Annes Lancashire, England at the age of 6
- Educated at Arnold School, Blackpool
- Graduated from the prestigious RADA ( Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London) with a BA in acting in 2003

- Has a natural thin physique and has to work double hard in order to bulk up for roles
- Proud of his Irish roots. Sport wise supports mainly England (as he grew up there) unless they play Ireland
- Believed he was too thin to win the role of Robin Hood
- Has a tattoo on his right upper-arm since 2010 (depicts the lyric ‘Now here we Are’ from the song ‘Columbia’ by one of his favorite music bands Oasis / design of a large cross)
- Graduated from RADA with fellow actor Owain Yeoman (Wayne Rigsby in ‘The Mentalist’) as a classmate. Who only has nice things to say about Jonas, remembers him for being a fun guy & great bloke to hang out with.
- Found out he won the role of Robin Hood while filming Losing Gemma in India
- Broke a meta-tarsal back in 2007 after a stunt on set of Robin Hood went wrong
- Played the character of student ‘Anthony’ in Teachers (2004), who has an affair with teacher Penny, played by Tamzin Mattheson. The real-life girlfriend of Keith Allen who played the Sheriff of Nottingham to Jonas’s Robin Hood in the BBC Series (2006 – 2009)
- Keith Allen and Jonas were reunited recently in 2011, both starring in an episode together of ‘The Body Farm’ (BBC series)
- Has played characters who were linked to a ‘Gemma’ as a love-interest on 3 separate occasions. With the role of ‘Steve’ coupled to ‘Gemma’ on two occasions. *Steve & Gemma (Losing Gemma , 2006) & Steve & Gemma (Prisoners’ Wives , 2012) * Nick & Gemma (The Street, 2009)
- We can see some pictures from the Armstrong family album in the first episode of Prisoners’ Wives depicting Jonas as a teenager with his parents and siblings. (when Gemma visits her husband Steve’s mum caravan)
